Candice White Ardlay vive ormai nel Regno Unito. E, da donna matura, Candy rilegge con nostalgia la corrispondenza intrattenuta con amici e conoscenti incontrati nel corso di una vita, dall'infanzia presso l'accogliente Casa di Pony, fino all'adozione da parte della facoltosa famiglia Ardlay. Senza dimenticare l'anno scolastico trascorso nel severo istituto Saint Paul, o gli studi per diventare infermiera. 

Candy Candy (キャンディ・キャンディ Kyandi Kyandi) di Keiko Nagita

La scrittrice giapponese Keiko Nagita  è più famosa con lo pseudonimo Kyoko Mizuki.

Il suo romanzo, Candy Candy, racconta le vicissitudini della piccola orfanella Candy (Candice White) dall'infanzia alla maturità, sullo sfondo della Prima Guerra Mondiale.

La storia si svolge tra gli Stati Uniti e l'Inghilterra. Il romanzo è stato pubblicato solo in Giappone fino al dicembre 2014, anno in cui è stata editata la prima edizione estera, quella italiana, a opera di Kappalab.

Il romanzo contiene le illustrazioni della disegnatrice Yumiko Igarashi nel 1975, che ha ispirato un manga  e, la serie televisiva della Toei Animation, conosciuta e trasmessa anche in Italia.

Trama 

Agli inizi del Novecento, due orfanelle Candy e Annie vengono abbandonate presso l'orfanotrofio religioso Casa di Pony, diretto da Miss Pony e da Suor Maria. Candy ha come migliore amioc un procione di nome Klin. Annie verrà adottata dalla ricca famiglia Brighton, mentre Candy resterà all'orfanotrofio.
